Our Native Pollinator (Prairie) Habitat
In Fall of 2008 with the help of JFNew & Associates of Walkerton, IN, and in cooperation with the USDA and NRCS we planted 2.2 acres of native pollinator habitat, containing native wildflowers, and prairie grasses native to the region. The purpose of this planting is to provide habitat for native pollinator insects to forage on throughout the growing season. Photos of this habitat can be found in the slideshow on this site titled "Prairie/Native Pollinator Habitat".
In addition to providing native pollinator and wildlife habitat, prairie is valuable in promoting water holding capacity and infiltration of stormwater. Click the link below to read a very good article about this topic written by Scott Dierks of Cardno JFNew.
